Monogram THIS. Also, I Love You, Whistles.

28 Feb

I’ve always had a bit of a thing for UK-based brand, Whistles.  It all began during a lovely sales season while I was studying abroad in London…ohhhh the good old days!  In hindsight, I really couldn’t afford it all as a student but the exchange rate at that time was bizarrely in my favor so I got my shop on.  The long and short of it is, Whistles has really grown in the last few years and where I really enjoyed the brand before, I love it now.  They dress the refined cool girl perfectly and are badass at creating a wardrobe that can be taken anywhere.  See?  I f**king love it.

Here are some of my favorite current looks…

To make themselves even cooler, Whistles is going to be offering monogramming services at their Dover Street store starting this week.  And it’s awesome.  What I’m saying is, for this £55 clutch and £40 for the monogram, I may have to pop over to this shop in April when I’m over in the Big Smoke and treat myself.  Only question is…what color?!

Mulberry Spring 2013: Busy & Beautiful. Real Beautiful.

24 Sep

I had high hopes for Mulberry.  Every season seems to be a seemingly impossible improvement on the year before.  The label is a total pro when it comes to holding tight to quirky English tradition and staying updated and, in fact, cooler than any of us can ever hope to be.  Am I setting myself up for disappointment?  I should be.  But dammit!  Emma Hill and her team have done it a-bloody-gain!

I’m not mad.  I’m excited.  Ok, I’m a little bit mad.  But only because I can’t afford it.  Right now.  And I want all of it.  Right now.  I know it is part of the whole aesthetic of Mulberry but the collections make me want to get lost in some kind of magical forest dressed like the most adorable girl ever.  My one issue?  The poodles.  I don’t like them and not even Mulberry can make me.

What was that?  You want to win a beautiful necklace?  Well, you’re in luck…Thrill of the Chaise is giving one away with one of my favorite Etsy shops!  Enter here!

Temperley London Spring 2013: Love At First Fashion Sight.

21 Sep

I’ve always been in ‘like’ with Temperley.  It’s quite pretty and Kate Middleton seems to like it and I’m supportive of anything that loves London as much as I do.  But I’ve been getting pretty bored.  Designers are allowed to have their moments of a ‘nice’ collection.  We can’t all be geniuses all the time (that includes you, Karl) but when I look at a label and begin to think ‘well, it’s not offensive’, I shut off.

So thank you, lovely Alice Temperley, for pulling me out of my funk with you!  The Spring 2013 collection from Temperley London could easily double as a resort collection…but that’s part of the fun.  It’s very 1950s luxurious cruise through the Italian isles.  It’s still got the cute factor but with enough sheer to remind you that Temperley designs for women.  Or rather, women with a girlish mentality.

Though it may be a bit of a darker reference, as the film as all about a cheating spouse and the perils of love, the collection really reminded me of Jean Luc Godard’s ‘Contempt’.  Brigitte Bardot as a film producer’s wife shooting on the Italian coast and on the island of Capri in the 1950s.  Luxury, beauty and a bit of the French balance between sweet and sexy.

The mark of a beautiful garment is that it makes getting dressed to impress effortless.  These looks would stand out in any room and you’d genuinely be able to say ‘oh this? I just threw it on’.  Also, who else is down with bringing back the lace glove look?  :)

Young British Designers.

4 Sep

I’m a supporter of all things British.  I spent 7 years of my adult life (which is, basically, ALL of my adult life) living in London and I cried a little bit during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies just because I was so proud (not at all British, whatever).  One might be able to imagine how enthralled I was when I discovered an e-commerce fashion site dedicated to the talents of young British designers, aptly named Young British Designers.

They offer a retail experience that supports and encourages young and not so young designers which also proves most excellent for those of us who want to remain on the cutting edge of fashion but may not have the ability to wander East London on the regular.  The website’s ‘About Us‘ is a wonderful read which sets the retailer apart alone.  ’We love British design, there’s just something about it, it’s not the sophisticated je ne sais quoi of our European cousins, or the high octane desirability of our US counterparts.  It’s just so cool, as cool as Concord, as cool as the O2 Arena (so who else has got one?) – cool.  Cool Britannia.’

Here are some of my favorites from the site:

Burberry Prorsum Resort 2013: Obviously Cool.

13 Jun

Burberry is really knocking it out of the park as of late.  They know it.  We know it.  The models in their Resort 2013 collection images blatantly know it.  There is a part of me that really wants to tell Burberry to get over itself and stop being so pretentious but the thing is that they aren’t really.  They are doing great things and they deserve everything they are getting.  This is rooted far deeper than just the fashions…Burberry as a business entity is one of the greatest assets of the fashion industry at the moment.  But they are able to match their international business savvy with knockout collections and I want all of it.

Resort for Burberry is striking me as a bit more ‘business casual’ than I would like to see from the label but they delivered something delightful and chances are they are going to knock my socks off with their next Spring/Summer collection.  In the meantime, however, I would like the gold trenchcoat featured in this collection to find its way to my doorstep.  Thanks ever so much.

Temperley London Resort 2013: The Glam Fairy.

9 Jun

I go back and forth about how I feel about Temperley London.  In theory, it should be my favorite but in practice, I just see it as a designer that gets a lot of attention from Kate Middleton when she is feeling a bit wild.  And I think other Kate and I may have different perceptions of ‘wild’.  Not that I don’t like her because I do.  She seems like a good time and I would love to get a margarita with her and then run around the palace wearing funny hats.

This latest Resort collection from Temperley really has me excited both for the label and from what we may hope to see from Miss Kate.  It is very 60s coquettish glam and I love it.  The label has gone for the best kind of Bardot-inspired ladylike sexiness that I can really get on board with.  My only hope is that we get to see this on our favorite lady royal without major alterations and complete with those nearly impossible wedges that I want on my little paws approximately 10 minutes ago.

‘Twas the day after Christmas…

26 Dec

As I both compile and recover from the celebrations of the last few days, I wanted to share with you a brilliant little video I saw about the Lanvin & Claridge’s tree that was the toast of the town this year in London.  It’s a little bit creepy, a whole lot of glamorous and everything I love about Lanvin.

Precious Susie Bubble.

7 Oct

So if you don’t have Style Bubble bookmarked on your computer, you totally should.  I have been a fan for some time now of Susie and her blog but when I saw this video she did for Bluefly, I actually just want to hug her and ask if she needs a new best friend.  Cause I’m totally up for it.
