Donna Karan and DKNY Spring 2013: New York All The Way.

12 Sep

I have a lot of time for Donna Karan.  Ask me why and I’ll never be able to tell you.  I just really like her.  Somewhere in between her going to my (almost) alma mater Parsons and totally respecting her for looking s**t hot for being 63, I just think she seems like a really well-meaning fashion icon…without being in your face about it.  All in all, if I was invited to give her a hug, I totally would.  That being said, I don’t wait excitedly for the Donna Karan or DKNY collections each season but they always seem to bubble up and deserve a genuine tennis clap.  The collections don’t set the world on fire but dammit they are good.

DKNY went properly back to its roots this season and the show was undeniably New York.  From well-placed denim to making windbreakers look badass, Ms. Karan really put forward a collection that will fly off the shelves.  It was updated and it was cool.  There wasn’t any messing about with colors.  The silhouettes were straight-forward.  The style a mix of sexy and sporty.  Job well done.

And as is the lady’s job…the Donna Karan collection offered something a bit more glamorous, ethereal and grown-up.  While I’m still firmly planted in the DKNY state of mind, it’s nice to have something fancy to aspire to  :)
