The ‘fear’ that makes Alexander McQueen so beautiful.

5 Oct

I waited all day yesterday to get myself home from class to see what had come down the runway at Alexander McQueen in Paris.  It was the exact same feeling I had when I had woken up early to hear my wishes had come true and Kate Middleton was wearing McQueen to wed Prince William.  The feeling where your phone just isn’t loading any images fast enough and there is part of you that doesn’t even want to see them on such a rubbish little screen because you know it won’t do it justice.

And there was that tiny bit of panic in me that Sarah Burton might not be as brilliantly disturbed as the man himself was.  Don’t get me wrong, I have total faith in Sarah, I adore her.  But I think we all know, even the things we love the most and love unconditionally can let us down every now and then.

Alexander McQueen is quoted as saying ‘I want to empower women.  I want people to fear the women I dress’.

Great news.  The McQueen S/S 2012 show took the gorgeous colors and slightly retro feel that has become the huge trend from all the shows so far in New York, London and Milan…and made you want to wear it all, meanwhile frightening you just enough to give you that ‘fear’ McQueen spoke about.  Until about halfway through when it was more ‘now sit down and shut up, this is f**king McQueen’.  Loves.

I often find that I either LOVE McQueen or I really dislike it..
